Nigel Farage not welcome in Scotland

Anti-racist activists in Scotland have today spoken out against the visit of Nigel Farage to Glasgow. Farage is hoping to use the upcoming independence referendum as a way of gaining more publicity for his toxic views. As many news outlets have noted, the last time Farage visited Scotland he angered locals so much that he was trapped in a pub as they protested their anger at his visit.

Activists on both sides of the upcoming referendum vote have made clear that they oppose his presence and attempts to hijack media attention.

“Glasgow and Scotland will not buy UKIP’s dirty muddy politics. Farage is not

welcome here. He tries sell racism to ordinary people with false information blaming

immigrants for crises caused by governments and banks. We should oppose racism and fascism and reject UKIP.”

- Pinar Aksu, anti-racist campaigner.

“Glasgow is a city which has a fine tradition in welcoming refugees fleeing war and

persecution in different parts of the world.Scotland has many students and workers

from abroad and many immigrants who have chosen to make their homes here. All of

these people contribute to our rich diverse society.

There is no place here for Nigel Farage and UKIP’s vile politics of race hate. UKIP

specialises in blaming immigrants for the failures of bankers and politicians.

They deliberately distort information and mislead people in order to to create

division and foster racisn. Glasgow and Scotland reject these ideas in favour of multiculturalism and international solidarity.”
